Considering how many there are and how difficult they are, you'd think they'd give the AI some damn sense! How am I supposed to save Cerya when she gets dominated by the enemies surroundin her and I start way down below the stronghold?!

A cheap way is have Canopus naked with a lobber and field alchemy to keep her alive until you can actually make your way up. His low defense will also distract the enemy, taking some of the heat off Cerya. Works with most of those crazy rescue missions, but does require luck.

I flew two weak cockatrices as decoys along with Canopus and his lobber. At that point it's a race to blitz down the enemy leader and end the fight ASAP. My slow units take long to climb up the fortress and join the fight but it's manageable with some trial and error.

Cerya is a unit that doesn't advance in stats or skills if you recruit her at higher level in world. I got her with disappointing rank 1 and 2 skills, and by then there's no way she can catch up.
