Swift Sail **Updated 9 months ago**

The Swift Sail is unique to the HD version and was not included in the original release. Go to the auction house in Windfall Island after completing the first dungeon. An auction will sometimes begin for the Swift Sail, which lets you sail twice as fast. If it doesn't, exit the auction and come back. The bidding starts at 100, and the trick is to bid 10% higher than the current bid to stun the others for a while. Keep this up and eventually you'll win the Swift Sail for around about 200 Rupees.

Note: You can hit B to leave an auction. This is handy since it can take several tries to get the Ice Climber guy to auction off the Swift Sail (usually it's Treasure Maps and Joy Pendants).

Special Edition Wii U GamePad Script Translation

If you purchase the Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle you will receive a special GamePad with Hylian script. The following is a rough translation of the symbols:

...when turns the age of The Green the sign will appear.
...above the tomb it`s still alive. In an island a young boy...
...crossing the field the heart wil be taken by a powerfull wind of the whirlwind of...
Like in the Legend of the young one who stood against the roaring darkness from the land of the thiefs, on Wii U it all will be known and the wishes fulfilled.
In the time of The Green those whom hadn`t been taken their will off focused the power of the awekened goddess to give the death battle to an end, and so the power vanished...
...restores peace to the land. And so is the Legend of a land which it´s memory vanishes.

Fire and Ice arrows

To obtain the Ice and Fire Arrows, you will first need the bow and arrow. Fill up to maximum with arrows, then set sail and find a big cyclone that resembles a tornado. Sail directly into it and there will be an intermission sequence showing a large frog on a pink cloud. He will be in the center of the cyclone. Shoot him three times with the arrows, which is tough because your boat is moving constantly and the wind is strong enough to blow your arrows off course. After hitting him three times he will teach you a melody that allows you to control his cyclones. Call his cyclone and have it take you to Mother And Child Island. It will drop you in a fairy pool, and the Great Fairy will give you the Fire and Ice Arrows. The cyclone melody also lets you travel across the sea quicker.

Easter Eggs

Oracle Of Ages easter egg
  • The pearls you receive are the same designs of songs in Oracle Of Ages.

The Four Swords easter egg
  • The Knight's Crests has a picture of Vaati.

A Link To The Past easter eggs
  • When obtaining the Master Sword, you will hear a remix of the music when you pull the Master Sword out of the Lost Forest in A Link To The Past.

  • The Hyrule Castle music is the same as that in A Link To The Past.

  • When the King Of The Red Lions goes to put the final shard of the Triforce Of Wisdom in Tetra's Necklace, the theme song from A Link To The Past plays.

Ocarina Of Time easter eggs
  • In the Nintendo Gallery in Forest Haven, look somewhat to the right of the sculptor to see the Keaton and Goron masks, and the Bunny Hood from Ocarina Of Time.

  • In the room where you get the Master Sword, jump into to water and look at the stained glass windows. Six of them are pictures of sages from Ocarina of Time, and one of them is a picture of Ganon in his final form. The sages are (in order from the left): Ruto, water sage; Rauru, light sage; Saria, forest sage; Daurain, fire sage; Impa, shadow sage; and Naubooru, spirit sage.

  • After learning the Song Of Passing from Tott (the strange man by the "headstone" on Windfall Island), listen to the song when you play it. It sounds just like the Sun's Song from Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.

  • Stand still in the Forest Haven and listen to the music very closely to hear Saria's Song from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

  • When you discover that Tetra's true identity, the music that plays when you met Zelda as a child or adult in Ocarina Of Time will play.

  • Each time you restore some power to the Master Sword, you hear the music from when you pull out the Master Sword on Ocarina Of Time.

  • Both of the temple sages and the merchants come from the races that held and protected the spiritual stones in OOcarina Of Time.

  • The symbol on the merchants' packs are drawings of the Goron Ruby from Ocarina Of Time.

  • The Boss in The Tower Of The Gods is just like Bongo-Bongo, the Boss of the Shadow Temple in Ocarina Of Time.

  • The Ballad Of Gales has the same ending as the Minuet Of Forest from Ocarina Of Time.

  • Whenever you see Medli, look at the insignia on her chest. It is the Zora's Sapphire from Ocarina Of Time.

  • Go to the part in the Dragon Roost Cavern where you have to rescue Medli and must face two enemies and a Moblin. Notice that enemies carry shields that resemble Link's Deku shield.

  • The creature you get Nyrues Peral from, Jobun, is actully Jabu-Jabu from Ocarina Of Time.

  • Zoom in on the unfinished clay heads behind the counter. One of them is Saria from Ocarina Of Time.

Link's Awakening easter egg
  • One of the unfinished figurines in the Nintendo Gallery, on the shelf behind the sculptor, is the shop merchant in Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Legend Of Zelda easter eggs
  • Look at the bag of the sculptor fan to see a logo of one of the original enemies from the Legend Of Zelda.

  • The person that has the bag that works at the Nintendo gallery, on his bag at the bottom corner is a picture of an Octtork from The Legend Of Zelda.

  • The Dragon Roost Island Boss resembles the NES Legend Of Zelda version of Gohma in level 6.

  • Look at the bag that the orange-haired kid carries in the Nintendo Gallery. The corner is a picture of a bug from the original The Legend Of Zelda for the NES.

Pokemon easter egg
  • At the Nintendo Gallery in Forest Haven, look behind the sculptor to the left to see a Goron mask, and next to it is a mask that resembles a Pikachu.

Pikmin easter egg
  • Each of the Goddess statues where you put the pearls in to activate the Tower of The Gods resemble a Pikmin. Nayru's statue has a mouth on its face like a Blue Pikmin, Farore's statue has two big ears like those on a Yellow Pikmin, and Din's statue has a big nose like that of a Red Pikmin.

HD Edition Changes

The following are a few of the additions/differences between the original Gamecube version and the new HD Wii U version:

Hero Mode
  • You can now begin the game with Hero Mode, a tougher version where enemies hit harder and helath can only be recovered through Potions (no hearts from pots and such).

Picto Box Miiverse Integration
  • You can now not only share photos you snapped with the Picto Box on the Miiverse but can also take selfies where Link is in the picture and can be given a certain expression (happy, sad, surprised, etc).

Swift Sail
  • You can now buy the Swift Sail at the Auction House on Windfall Island after completing the first dungeon of the game. It allows you to sail at a faster speed.

Heart Pieces and Treasure Charts
  • The 5 Triforce Charts that were originally used in the (tedious) 5 Triforce Shards now lead to chests with other things. 4 of these charts lead to chests containing 100 to 200 rupees (one of which has replaced the Hero's Charm as the reward for giving Miss Marie 40 Joy Pendants).

  • The fifth Triforce Chart leads to the piece of heart that was originally located at the bottom of the Savage Labyrinth on Outset Island, but instead is now on Two-Eye Reef (D-7). To get this Treasure Chart, go to Pawprint Isle and use the Hookshot on the strange looking tree. Then, drop into the nearby hole and clear the cave of Wizrobes and the enemies they summon to get Treasure Chart #46.

Various Minor Changes
  • The Hero's Charm is gone from its location on Windfall Island, and is no longer the reward for giving Miss Marie 40 Joy Pendants. The reward is now Treasure Chart #45, which leads to 200 Rupees. The Hero's Charm is now the reward for clearing all 50 levels of the Savage Labyrinth, which replaces Piece of Heart #44 (Now found via Treasure Chart #46 found on Pawprint Isle)

  • 5 Triforce Charts are gone, and the chests that contained them now contain Triforce Shards. The locations these charts led to are now used by 5 other new Treasure Charts.

  • The Wind Waker is now permanently mapped to D-pad Up.

  • After playing a song for the first time, from then on you can skip the scene of Link replaying the song and the confirmation that follows. example, repeated playing of Wind's Requiem now leads directly to the wind direction selector.

  • When using the Sea Chart, the hints that talking fish provide can be replayed without having to give him more bait. To do this, tap on the quadrant and tap the fish icon to replay the message.

  • When using the Grappling Hook, Link no longer has to stop moving to change direction; you can now swing and pivot at the same time.

  • You can now aim in first person when using the Hookshot, Boomerang, Grappling Hook, Telescope, and Hero's Bow. Using the dual analogue sticks, the player can aim the weapon and move around, allowing Link to target more than one enemy with the boomerang while still being able to move freely. You can also enter first person mode at any time by pressing in on the right analog stick.

  • Link can now retract thrown weapons like the Hookshot, Boomerang, and Grappling hook by pressing the weapon's button again in mid throw. However, the player can no longer 'spam' attacks as these weapons now require one tap to ready and another to throw, and will retract if the button is pressed before the weapon hits its target.

Boss Strategies

Gahodan (Tower Of The Gods Boss)
  • Auto lock onto the Boss' hands using your bow and fire, then shoot arrows at the two red eyes. When its head drops to the ground, throw a bomb into its mouth. Repeat this three times and it will fall. Note: If you run out of arrows, more will appear from its nose.

  • When Gahodan charges to launch fireballs at you, run under him before he shoots and he will cancel the attack. This requires precise timing, as running under him too late will result in getting hit with fireballs.

Gahoma (Dragon Roost Island Boss)
  • When the battle begins, use the Grappling Hook and grab on to the red tail that is hanging from the ceiling and swing across the Boss. It will cause a large boulder to drop on his head and stun him. Then, attack his eye with your sword to defeat him.

  • Use the Grappling Hook to grab on to Valoo's Tail, then swing to the other side and a big rock will fall on Gohoma . Repeat this process three times to destroy his armor. When Gohma charges up for his fire attack, hit his eye with your sword several times to kill him.

  • After knocking off his outer shell or armor, instead of waiting for him to start powering up his fire attack, press R to target his eye at any time. Use the grappling hook while targeted to bring the eye to you and also stun Gahoma. While he is stunned, use your sword on his eye as much as possible, which should be about four hits. Do this twice and he will be defeated.

Ganondorf (Gannon's Tower Boss)
  • When Princess Zelda shoots Ganondorf with a Light Arrow, walk up and do several sword combos. Once Ganondorf receives enough damage, line yourself up with Princess Zelda, so that when she fires a Light Arrow towards you, Link can deflect it off the Mirror Shield and hit Ganondorf. Once Ganondorf is stunned, move in and hit him with your sword. Repeat this until he is defeated.

  • When you find Zelda towards the end of the game, you will have to fight Ganondorf. Use your boomerang to cut the strings that hold up Ganondorf, then use a Light Arrow to hit the blue ball at the end of his tail. After three shots, he will turn into a spider. When he climbs the top of the room, adjust your camera to see his reflection in the water. Position yourself near the blue ball, then wait for him to fall down. When he does, shoot his tail with your Light Arrow. He will then turn into a snake. You can hit his head with your sword. This will cause him to freeze for a moment. While frozen, you can shoot the blue ball with your Light Arrow. He moves very fast ; do not hesitate to shoot him with your arrows.

  • Zelda will shoot Ganondorf with your Light Arrows. Start by evading Ganondorf 's attacks until he gets hit by the Light Arrow. He will be stunned -- quickly hit him with your Master Sword. Repeat this until he comes up to Zelda and hits her. Start hitting Ganondorf with Parry Attacks until Zelda wakes up. She will try to hit Ganondorf with the Light Arrows, but he dodges them. Avoid Ganondorf's attacks until Zelda says something. Now, she will use the Light Arrows to hit your Mirror Shield. When you see her aiming the Light Arrow at you, hold up your Mirror Shield. Once it hits your shield, it will hit Ganondorf. When he is stunned, approach him and wait for him to try to hit you. When he does, do a Parry Attack to defeat him.

  • After deflecting the Light Arrows and hit Ganondorf, have your sword out and L-target him. A change and you will hear a sound. When you hear the sound, uppercut Ganondorf and stab him when falling down in the head.

  • When you are fighting Gannon, use your parry attack to cut the time needed to defeat him by almost half.

The Forsaken Fortress Boss
While it chases you on top of the building, it will try to hit you with its beak. The beak will get stuck on the ground. Hit it with your Skull Hammer. Repeat this until the helmet on the beak breaks. Then repeat, but instead of using the Skull Hammer use your sword.

The Hemlock King
  • When it sticks his beak in the ground, hit him with your Skull Hammer. Repeat this three times . You can continue this process, or do the same as above except with your Master Sword.

  • After breaking its helmet with the Skull Hammer, use the Boomerang instead of using the Master Sword against its head. You can actually damage him quicker this way.

Jalhalla (Big Poe, Earth Temple Boss)
  • Use your Mirror Shield to make him become more visible and lay on his back. Once done, pick him up and throw him against the wall. A group of little enemies will go everywhere. Kill as many as you can until they become the big Boss again. Repeat this until you have killed all the little ghosts.

  • First, use your Mirror Shield on a light to reflect him and hold the Mirror Shield at him. After he is visible, carry and throw him at the wall with spikes on it. A group of Poe will appear. Kill them with your sword.

  • First, use the Mirror Shield to reflect light onto the big Poe. Then, pick it up and throw it into the spiked wall. Then, use the Hurricane Spin to kill all of the Poes before they become the big Poe again. Repeat this until all of the Poes are dead.

  • Shine some light on him and throw him into the spikes. Kill as many Poes as you can, then repeat this process until you kill every Poe.

  • When the battle begins, run towards a beam of light. Note: It disappears sometimes, but reappears at the same place. Once done, reflect the light so that he can become vulnerable (just like a Poe). Lift and throw him towards the tower of spikes. The little spikes on walls at the bottom will not affect him. This will cause him to shatter into multiple Poes. If you have the Hurricane Spin Attack, use this technique to kill many Poes quickly. With some lucky, you can defeat them immediately. Repeat the steps to defeat Jalhalla.
Link.

Kalle Demos (Forbidden Woods Boss)
  • First disconnect all of the roots from the ceiling using the boomerang. Work fast before the roots grow back. When it falls from the ceiling, quickly attack the weak center. After about a dozen sword hits, the Boss will be defeated.

  • L-target a string and launch your boomerang at it. Cut every string and slash at the Deku Baba inside. Repeat the process until it explodes.

Molgera (Wind Temple Boss)
  • Once its head sticks out of the ground, pull its tongue with the Hookshot .Hit it as much as possible. It will then go around the room . Run around the room until a hole reappears . Then, repeat this until it is defeated.

  • Use your Hookshot to bring out his tongue, then attack. Note: This is tough when sand worms are in the way, and he will sometimes fly around the room. Repeat the process about four times to destroy him .

Phantom Gannon
  • After your second visit to Forsaken Fortress, you will have to battle Phantom Gannon. When he hurls an energy ball at you, hit it back with your sword. After defeating him, you will get a Skull Hammer.

  • When you face Phantom Ganon (either in the Forsaken Fortress or Ganon's Tower), he will do one of three attacks. In the first attack, when he creates four holograms, immediately attack each one with the sword. Eventually one of them will be the real Phantom Ganon. In the second attack, when he creates the White Energy Ball, hit it with your sword to send it back to him. Do this about five to six times. Eventually he will be unable to deflect it back in time and get hit. In the third attack , when he creates the Red Energy Ball, he will send it split up (not in one piece like the White Energy Ball). They are Homing Energy Balls, and will try to hit you. Instead of running to the side to avoid them, use the Spin Attack with the Master Sword. If you have good timing, you will deflect all the Energy Balls back to him, and he will fall to the ground.

Puppet Gannon
  • When you enter the room where Puppet Gannon is supposed to be, you will see a bed with Zelda in it. You and her are not the only ones in the room. Gannon is also in the room with you. Once he is done talking, you will begin fighting Puppet Gannon. You will need the Boomerang and the Light Arrows. Cut all of the strings before you try to shoot Light Arrows. He will then start spinning around. When his tail is facing you, shoot and repeat until he goes back up and reties his strings. Repeat the process until he starts transforming into his next, spider, form. Watch the reflection of the water. When it comes down on you, move towards the back of it, where the little "bulb" is located. Shoot it when it comes down. Repeat the process until he transforms for the last time, into a snake. Fire Light Arrows until he is defeated.

  • To defeat the snake form of Puppet Gannon, instead of shooting Light Arrows to stun him for a half second, throw a bomb and hit him. You also may be hit, but it does not cause much damage. Then, quickly run around behind him and shoot the blue part of the tail with the Light Arrow. He will flop to the other side of the room. Repeat this two more times.

  • Cut all his strings with your Boomerang, then hit his tail with a Light Arrow. Repeat this twice and he will transform into his spider form . In his spider form, he will spin and fall. Try to be where his tail is located. Shoot his tail with a Light Arrow two times and he will transform again . In his worm form, he is fast. Get close, but not too close. Shoot his tail two times with a Light Arrow two times to finally win. If you run out of magic, kill the Keese to gain more.

  • He has three forms: a marionette, a spider, and a worm/snake. For the final form (worm/snake), if you hit him he is only stunned for a moment. It is very difficult to hit him by taking out your bow and shooting your arrow at his orb tail. Instead, throw some All-Purpose Bait (the red item) somewhere. Once done, run from the bait. He will spin around the bait for five to ten seconds, giving your enough time to find his orb and strike it with your Light Arrows.

Deluxe Pictobox **Updated 9 months ago**

Become Lenzo's Research Assistant to obtain the Deluxe Pictobox, which allows Link to take pictographs in color. To become his assistant, simply complete the 3 picture requirements. In the original you had to travel to Forest Haven and catch a Firefly, but in the HD version you DO NOT have to do this. Here's how you complete Lenzo's quests:

Quest 1
Take a picture of the red-shirted guy that looks like Mario as he's slipping a letter in the mailbox near the docks.

Quest 2
Go inside the coffee shop above the eskimo guys' shop and roll into the wall to make noise. Then, snap a pic of the bald guy acting scared.

Quest 3
Just outside Lenzo's shop is a woman with an orange dress. Wait for the guy with the striped shirt to stroll by and snap a pic as soon as they look at each other for a brief moment.

Second Quest details

After completing the main story you will be asked if you want to save your status. Select a new save spot if you want to preserve your last save. If you start a new game with this save, the following things will have changed for your second quest:

  • You will start with the Deluxe Picto Box, so you can immediately start taking color photos (all the figurines you have gathered during the first quest will remain)
  • Instead of receiving the green tunic, your grandma gives you an invisible one -- so you can play through the game with Link's blue "crab" outfit.
  • Your sister Aryll will wear a "skull dress" instead of her usual outfit.
  • Hyrulian dialogue is translated so you can read everything characters like Jabun or Valoo say to you.
  • The Treasure locations are moved further away from the islands.

I hear from the auction house but I have bought and won all four items. It is supposed to lead to a heart piece yet nowhere can I find this thing.

Answer from pokeparadox

Go to Three-Eye Reef (one sector west of Greatfish Island) and destroy all the cannons and warships to get the chart.. This can be done after you defeat Phantom Ganon at the second Forsaken Fortress event.

Not sure why you'd want to, not that the pro controller isn't great but they did an awesome job with the gamepad. Try it out and you'll see : )

I've seen tingle bottles with pictures of cutscene images. How do you take those if you can't use your pictobox during cutscenes?

Answer from N3M3SIS

Just press the Home key on the gamepad (or wii pro controller) while playing and post a pic to the Miiverse that way.

In the original you got a piece of heart but I received the hero's charm instead. Did they move the heart piece?

Answer from wildwizzard360

Yep! There's a new treasure chart in Pawprint Isle's second cave that leads to the final piece of heart.
